In a move aimed at facilitating voter participation, the Government of Goa has announced a paid holiday for workers in the state who are registered voters in the bordering states of Karnataka and Maharashtra. The holiday will be effective on the polling day, April 26, 2024.
The decision, outlined in a notification from the Department of General Administration, extends the paid holiday privilege to workers across various sectors, including industrial, governmental, and private establishments. This initiative ensures that eligible workers have the opportunity to exercise their voting rights in the general elections of their respective home states.
The notification specifies that the paid holiday is supplementary to the one already designated for May 7, 2024, which coincides with the polling day for the third phase of elections in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
By offering this additional paid holiday, the Government of Goa aims to remove barriers to voter participation and enable workers to fulfill their civic duty without compromising their work commitments.
