On the occasion of World Food Safety Day, a special enforcement drive was carried out in Panaji City by the Team of FDA officials led by Designated Officer Richard Noronha and Sr. Food Safety Officer Sanjyot Kudalkar. Several restaurants in the St. Inez area were inspected and fines were imposed on those found flouting the hygiene norms.

A fine of 10,000/- was imposed on Sheetal Hotels for operating without a water filter and not following the hygiene norms. Fine of 2000/- 10000/- were imposed on 2 street carts engaged in the sale of Bhel Puri and chaat. They were not having the valid registration from FDA and did not possess permission from CCP as well. A premises HAJALI in St. Inez was fined 15,000/- for operating under unhygienic conditions and displaying shawarma on footpath without observing proper hygiene. M/s Zaika kitchen was also asked to close down being unlicensed. Few other hotels were also inspected wherein minor non compliance was seen and hence an improvement report was issued to them. The check will continue in other areas too.
