Today, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee extended financial assistance and distributed appointment letters for the position of home guards to the victims of a devastating train accident in Odisha. The event took place at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.
The train accident resulted in a total of 103 reported deaths, with the remains of 86 individuals successfully recovered. To aid the grieving families, a compensation amount of Rs 5 lakhs was provided, and one member from each family received an appointment letter for a job as a home guard. Additionally, three individuals who suffered permanent physical disabilities were given a sum of Rs 5 lakhs, along with their appointment letters.
For those who sustained severe injuries, financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh was granted to 172 individuals, while 635 people with minor injuries received Rs 50,000 each. Immediate relief of Rs 10,000 was provided to all the victims, followed by a monthly support of Rs 2,000 for the next three months. As a humanitarian gesture, 799 migrant workers affected by the incident were offered financial aid of Rs 10,000, along with a monthly support of Rs 2,000 for the next three months.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her sincere gratitude to the entire team involved in the recovery efforts, including doctors, nurses, police officers, and officials, for their tireless dedication in restoring normalcy. She assured the victims that she stands firmly in support of them during this tragic incident. The government will continue to closely monitor the situation and take every necessary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of all those affected.
