On April 16th, 2024, several cities across India witnessed scorching temperatures as the mercury soared past the 41-degree Celsius mark.
Leading the temperature charts was Surendranagar in Gujarat, blazing at a staggering 43.0°C. Other cities experiencing intense heat included Baroda (42.0°C), Nandyal (43.4°C), Asansol (42.8°C), and Bhubaneshwar (41.9°C).
The heatwave swept across multiple states, encompassing Gujarat, Jharkhand, Rayalaseema, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Weather officials reported temperatures surpassing normal levels by 1-3°C in various regions, notably Madhya Maharashtra, North Interior Karnataka, Gangetic West Bengal, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, pockets of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha were gripped by heatwave conditions.
While the heatwave remains localized for now, authorities emphasize the importance of staying cool and hydrated during this period. Citizens are urged to avoid strenuous activities during peak temperatures and opt for loose, light-colored clothing to mitigate heat-related risks.
