Panaji, Goa – The Goa State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has warned of heatwave-like conditions in the state for the next seven days, starting today, April 8th, 2024. Temperatures are expected to reach highs of 33-35°C, posing a health risk to residents.

To combat the heat and prevent heatstroke, dehydration, and other heat-related illnesses, the SDMA has issued a public advisory urging people to take precautions. These include:

  • Limiting time spent outdoors, especially during the hottest part of the day.
  • Choosing loose, light-colored clothing that allows for breathability.
  • Staying hydrated by consuming plenty of water and cooling beverages throughout the day.
  • Avoiding sugary drinks, alcohol, tea, and coffee, which can dehydrate you further.
  • Rescheduling strenuous activities for cooler mornings or evenings.

The SDMA has also issued specific guidelines for farmers, recommending continued irrigation practices to protect crops during the dry spell. Additionally, they have advised political parties to plan election rallies for cooler hours to ensure the safety of participants.
