Today marks a historic achievement for the state of Goa as Shri. Guruprasad Pawaskar, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Govt of Goa and Shri. Taha Haaziq, Secretary for the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, were honored with the National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities for the year 2023.
Pawaskar is recognised as the ‘Best State Commissioner,’ under the ‘Divyangjano Ke Adhikar Adhiniyam 2016, Ke Apne Rajya Mein Karyanvayan Mein Sarvashreshtha Rajya Aayukta Divyangjan category,’ while Haaziq received the National Award under the ‘Sarvashreshtha Divyangjan’ category.
The esteemed National Award was presented by Hon’ble President Smt. Draupadi Murmu and Union Minister Shri. Virendra Kumar at a ceremony held in New Delhi on Sunday on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This recognition highlights their exceptional contributions to the welfare and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
In her address, President Draupadi Murmu emphasized the significance of recognising individual and institutional efforts for the welfare of persons with disabilities, stating that achievers should inspire and support others within the community.
Guruprasad Pawaskar and Taha Haaziq’s leadership played a pivotal role in organizing the highly successful Purple Fest, Goa – 2023. This inclusive event brought together diverse communities, showcasing the abilities and talents of persons with disabilities in a dignified manner.
The National Award stands as a testament to their unwavering commitment to creating an inclusive society, breaking down barriers, and ensuring equal opportunities for all. The commendation from the highest echelons of the nation reflects the impact of their tireless efforts in championing the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
