Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira has called upon the government to prioritize road restoration when embarking on projects involving road excavation. His statement came during the inauguration of the road reinstatement from Nachinola junction to Jagbai temple, a project tendered at Rs 35 lakhs.
Addressing the gathering, Ferreira expressed his concern about the common practice of roads being left in disarray after excavation. He emphasized that this issue needed immediate attention, stating, “It is a shame that the road was in a pitiable state. Whenever roads are dug up, they should be promptly resurfaced. But the road is dug up and then after 3-4 years, it is restored. This cannot be accepted. We have to put a mechanism in place to ensure these works are factored in while tendering the project for digging of the road.”
The MLA further noted the importance of the road from Nachinola junction to Jagbai temple, which connects Nachinola to Uccasaim and extends to Gavar. The road had suffered neglect despite its significance. Ferreira commended the government and the relevant PWD engineers for responding to their request.
In addition to advocating for road restoration, Ferreira urged citizens not to park their vehicles on the shoulders of the road, as it obstructs traffic flow and inconveniences other commuters. He clarified that parking on the shoulders was acceptable, but parking on the right of way should be avoided.
Meanwhile, work commenced on laying a new water pipeline in Panarim. The project involves laying pipelines of 110mm and 90mm diameter, covering a stretch of around 600 meters near the Santa Cruz Chapel. It is expected to cost Rs 7 lakhs and will be completed in the next 10 days. Ferreira acknowledged the importance of providing access to water as a fundamental right and praised those involved in pushing forward with the project.
Adv Carlos Ferreira, Aldona MLA, reiterated the need for proactive measures to ensure that road restoration is an integral part of road excavation projects, ultimately benefiting the community and ensuring the longevity of the road infrastructure.
