Goa is gearing up for the implementation of a pioneering project aimed at safeguarding the iconic River Sal. The stage is finally set to kick off the #Geo_Bag_Technology pilot project, with the arrival of geo bags and supporting implements. The installation process is scheduled to take place in Kharebhand tomorrow, Wednesday, May 31st at noon.

Captain Venzy Viegas, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA representing Benaulim, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming initiative. He emphasized the scientific backing behind the Geo Bag Technology and expressed confidence in its potential for success. Should the project yield positive results in Kharebhand, the plan is to replicate it across the River Sal, which is considered the lifeline of Salcete.

The deployment of geo bags, which are large bags filled with sand or soil, aims to address the issue of erosion along the river banks. By strategically placing these bags, experts anticipate a significant reduction in soil erosion, thus preserving the river’s ecosystem and mitigating potential damage to surrounding areas.

River Sal holds immense ecological importance for Goa, serving as a critical water resource and supporting a diverse range of flora and fauna. Recognizing the urgency to protect this natural treasure, the Geo Bag Technology pilot project signifies a crucial step forward in preserving the river’s health and sustainability.

Goa has long been at the forefront of environmental preservation efforts, and this latest initiative reflects the commitment of local authorities and community members to #Save_River_Sal. By implementing innovative solutions rooted in scientific research, the state aims to strike a balance between development and environmental conservation.

As the installation of geo bags commences in Kharebhand, anticipation and hope surround this landmark project. The success of Geo Bag Technology would not only secure the future of River Sal but also set a precedent for similar initiatives in other regions facing similar challenges.

Goa’s commitment to protecting its natural resources shines through this initiative, and the stage is now set for a brighter, more sustainable future for the beloved River Sal and the surrounding areas it nourishes.
