The formal segment of the 3rd G20 Development Working Group (DWG) meeting began on 09 May 2023 at the Taj Resort & Convention Center (TRCC), Goa. The meeting, to be held from 09 to 11 May 2023, was attended by G20 members, 9 invited countries and more than 80 representatives of various international and regional organizations. The meeting was co-chaired by the Co-Chairman of the DWG of India – Shri Nagaraj K. Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. Naidu and Ms. Eenam Gambhir are doing it.
The meeting began with a video address by Shri Dammu Ravi, Secretary (Economic Relations), Ministry of External Affairs. In his address, he welcomed all the delegates and emphasized that India has set an ambitious agenda for the DWG which aims to bring about inclusive and sustainable growth and put the achievement of SDGs at the forefront. Mr. Ravi said that India’s proposed outcome document, including the High Level Principles (HLP) for Data for Development, the HLP for LIFE, and the Action Plan on Accelerating Progress on the SDGs, will directly feed into the Leaders’-level document, the Green Growth Pact, which will be called To be adopted at the leaders’ summit to be held in the month of September. He urged the DWG to work towards consensus documents and requested support from all delegations.
The sessions on Data for Development on LIFE and on HLP saw detailed and engaging discussions and interactions to finalize the language of the outcome documents, reflecting the strong collective will of the G20 to work together on the development agenda. During the session, satisfactory progress was made in building consensus on a number of issues.
An exhibition showcasing India’s women-led initiatives was inaugurated before the formal meeting began in the morning. The exhibition is based on the theme of “ECHO-ECO” i.e. ‘An economy with safe climate and health that leads to greater opportunities’. The exhibition was organized by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs. The exhibition was prepared by the National Institute of Fashion Technology and featured products made by women entrepreneurs such as handlooms and clothing, handicrafts; Tea, spices, Ayurvedic products and millet based food items were displayed. All the DWG delegates attending the meeting visited the exhibition and witnessed live demonstrations with 3D Holograms, Appreciated the durable products and great digital experience. The Chief Minister of Goa Shri Pramod Sawant also took out time to visit the exhibition and interacted with the women entrepreneurs.
