Colvale: While Central Prison at Colvale is struggling to maintain discipline, a Head Guard who was promoted as Assistant Jailor, was moved out of the prison premises. The newly promoted Assistant Jailor has a track record of staying away from the Prison premises.
Vithoba Shetye is amongst the four Head Guards who were promoted as Assistant Jailors on the recommendation of the departmental promotion committee.
Inspector General of Prison Omvir Singh has signed the order, which was looked upon as a much needed to step to spruce up the discipline in the prison. The order was signed on March 27.
But to the utter surprise, within two days, on March 30, Shetye was transferred to the office of the IGP, moving him out of the prison.Additional IGP Vasudev Shetye signed the transfer orders.
What is interesting is that the Prison sources confirmed that Vithoba Shetye has never served in the prison premises right from the time he was promoted as Head Guard.
The work at Prison premises is more demanding as it deals with the handling of the prisoners. The question is being asked as to how he manages to stay from the crucial duty, while others continue serving at the prison.
