Mapusa Dream Crushers and Salcete Stallions register victories on opening day of the EMR Sarsangan Super Series Cricket The Hon. MLA of Fatorda, Vijai Sardesai inaugurated the Estilo Moderno Realty Sarsangan SUPER SERIES Cricket Tournament at MCC, Margao. Sarsangan become very important in this context.The guest of Honour, Girish Keny, a practising CA in Margao since 1986 while speaking on the occasion emphasized the need to conduct such tournaments for the Ladies as well considering the immense potential it offers with the start of the Womens Premier League. He also congratulated the organisers for organising the tournaments for the last 5 years.
MATCH 1: Atal Setu Brigade vs Mapusa Dream Crushers:
In the opening match, Mapusa Dream Crushers beat Atal Setu Brigade by 6 wickets and 17 balls to spare.
Put in to bat first, ASB put up an imposing 160/6 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to Kapil Angle who made 51* (35 balls, 8 x 4s, 1 x 6s), Mihir Kundaikar 36 (22 balls, 4 x 4s), Rasik Pai Khot 25 (21 balls, 1 x 4s), Somin Mahatme 18 (16 balls, 1 x 4s) & Aditya Angle 14 (7 balls, 3 x 4s). MDC were quite good in their bowling conceding just 6 extras. The highlight of the innings being a 57 run partnership off just 39 balls stitched between Rasik Pai Khot and Mihir Kundaikar for the 5 th wicket which brought respectability to the ASB total. For MDC, the successful bowlers were Dr. Omkar Shetye 1-8, Mahesh Churi 1-17,
Kaushal Churi 1-22 and Rajaram Kundaikar 1-30. In reply, MDC were off to a flying start racing to 33 in just 2 overs, thanks to the two openers Yash Prabhugaonkar 29 (10 balls, 4 x 4s, 2 x 6s) and Kaushal
Churi 23 (21 balls, 2 x 4s), tearing into the ASB pace attack. However the introduction of spin immediately brought dividends to the Atal Setu Brigade with Aditya Angle dismissing Yash Prabhugaonkar. Promoted at No:3, Aditya Prabhugaonkar, played a “Virat Kohli” like innings making 52* runs (31 balls, 5 x 4s, 2 x 6s) stitching two useful partnerships, 41 runs in 32 balls with Kaushal Churi for the 2 nd wicket and 47 runs in 29 balls with the MDC captain Venktesh Prabhu Verlekar who made 16 (13 balls, 1 x
6s), putting the match safely in MDC’s favour. Rajaram Kundaikar while making 19* (10 balls, 3 x 4s) helped MDC win with 17 balls and 6 wickets to spare. For ASB, the successful bowlers were, Viraj Dhond 1-13, Rasik Pai Khot 1-26, Sudin Kamat 1-26 & Aditya Angle 1-44. Aditya Prabhugaonkar won the EMR Man of the Match medal and a pair of batting gloves, for his brilliant innings for the Mapusa Dream Crushers.
MATCH 2: Salcete Stallions vs PDK Kings In the second match, Salcete Stallions beat PDK Kings by 16 runs.
Electing to bat first, SS got off to a flourishing start, thanks to the skipper Durgesh Prabhugaonkar who blasted 50* (28 balls, 2 x 4s, 5 x 6s) and Sarvesh Prabhugaonkar 25 (33 balls), putting 68 runs for the opening wicket off just 48 balls. Coming into bat at No: 3, the south paw Vardhan Misquin soon
outscored his batting partner Sarvesh, while making an entertaining 42 (29 balls, 4 x 4s) and also stitching an useful 46 run partnership for the 2 nd wicket off just 36 balls. For SS, Sandeep Dalal 12 (13 balls) and Sanat Prabhudesai 21 (12 balls, 2 x 4s, 1 x 6s) helped them post 167/5 in 20 overs. For PDK, only
Prasheel Kamat was the successful bowler picking 1-24. In reply, PDK Kings, got off to a disastrous start, losing Siddesh Sinai Amonkar who was trapped lbw by Durgesh Prabhugaonkar, before he could disturb thescorers. However a 40 run partnership in 27 balls between the captain Sachin Sardesai 41 (31 balls, 6 x 4s) and Anish Prabhu Mahambrey 20 (13 balls, 3 x 4s, 1 x 6s), helped PDK Kings stay in contention.
Some useful contributions with the bat from 3 south paws Pratham Kossambe 31 (29 balls, 2 x 4s), Ved Mahambrey 21 (17 balls, 1 x 6s) and Animesh Prabhugaonkar 17 (11 balls, 2 x 4s) took PDK Kings to 139/5 in 16.5 overs, needing 29 runs in 19 balls. A brilliant maiden over by the captain, Durgesh Prabhugaonkar during which Prasheel Kamat couldn’t score a single run in the 18 th over turned the match in
favour of Salcete Stallions, with PDK Kings managing to reach 151/9 in 20 overs, helping Salcete Stallions emerge victorious by 16 runs. For SS, the pick of the bowlers was Vardhan Misquin taking 3-19 who received good support from Durgesh Prabhugaonkar 1-12, Samprabh Phaldesai 1-22, Dr.
Prasad Ghode 1-24 and Balkrishna Hodarkar 1-32 Vardhan Misquin won the EMR Man of the Match medal and a pair of batting gloves, for his brilliant all round display for the Salcete Stallions.
